Alwyn Dixon from United Kingdom.

Alwyn Dixon comes from a strong sporting background. As a youth Alwyn excelled in all sports playing football and rugby at club levels.  Alwyn started boxing at an early age  and then at the age of 15 started into martial arts, studying wado-ryu and shotokan. Alwyn was fortunate enough to have studied under Sensei Meiji Suzuki and  Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda.

Having worked in 21 different countries Alwyn was exposed to various self defence problems and therefore the different solutions that these countries employ to these problems. One thing remained clear to Alwyn though and that was while most martial arts are great as a sport not many if any offer realistic self defence solutions.

Whilst working in Israel Alwyn was introduced to Krav Maga whilst visiting the family of a friend who had unfortunately been killed during the Lebanon conflict. The brother of Alwyn’s friend was teaching Krav Maga and explained it’s principles to Alwyn. The fact that it is based on a persons natural instinctive behaviour and therefore effective under pressure intrigued Alwyn.

Alwyn’s partner in Israel introduced him to Eyal Yanilov, the World’s leading practitioner of Krav Maga.  This was back in 1993 and Alwyn started his training with Eyal. It started with a one week intensive course which ran from 8 in the morning until 6 in the evening which was then followed by training in one of the IKMF Clubs in the evening. Alwyn feels the training received from Eyal is second to none and is privileged to have gone through the rigorous regime with him.

In Alwyn’s opinion Krav Maga is the best and probably only true system of defensive tactics and fighting skills available anywhere in the World. It is proven not just in a gym or dojo but every day in real life situations with the military and police forces in Israel and around the World.

Alwyn continued his training with Eyal Yanilov over a couple of years and in 1995/6 Alwyn and Eyal ran a series of weekend training courses around the UK. The reception was so great they launched the International Krav Maga Federation (UK) and then started training instructors. Alwyn became the first IKMF qualified instructor in the United Kingdom in 1996. This qualification was also recognized by the Israeli Ministry of Education (Wingate Institute). Only 16 instructors in the United Kingdom ever had this qualification.

Since then Alwyn opened the Alwyn Dixon School of Krav Maga in London which is still running although Alwyn does not teach there any more as he moved to Thailand in 2003. Alwyn has restarted his Krav Maga school in the United Kingdom and in Thailand.
